Description
Make addition within 20 practice a little sweeter with these Addition to 20 Color by Code activities! Students solve addition equations and follow the color key to reveal fun sweet treat pictures while building their addition skills.
One of my favorite things about this set is that each picture comes in two versions: one with a number line and one without. This makes it easy to give students the support they need without having to prepare completely different activities. Students who are still learning to count on can use the number line, while those who are ready can practice solving the equations independently.
These print-and-go activities are a great fit for first grade math centers, morning work, small groups, independent practice, or a little extra addition review.

HOW IT HELPS
Every student develops addition skills at a different pace. Some students are comfortable solving equations on their own, while others still need a visual strategy to help them find the sum.
Having two versions of each picture makes it easier to meet those different needs.
Use the number-line pages when introducing addition within 20, working with a small group, or providing extra support. As students become more confident, introduce the pages without number lines to encourage independent problem-solving.
You can also use both versions at different times during the year to revisit the skill and see how students are progressing.
These addition to 20 Color by Code activities also make it easy to revisit the same skill throughout the year, whether students are using number lines for support or solving equations independently.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
It’s always helpful to have activities that can work for more than one group of students. With these addition within 20 Color by Code pages, you can use the same sweet treat pictures while adjusting the amount of support students receive.
The number-line option is especially useful for students who are still building confidence with addition, and the version without number lines gives them an opportunity to show what they can do independently.
Best of all, there’s very little preparation. Just print the pages you need, and they’re ready for your next math lesson, center, or review activity.
Having addition to 20 Color by Code pages with two levels of support means you can use the same resource with students who are working at different levels.
